Stuart Crampin made AGU Fellow (January 2009)
Stuart Crampin, emeritus professor of geophysics at the University of Edinburgh, was made a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union at the annual Fall Meeting in San Francisco in December 2008.

Clive McCann receives Conrad Schlumberger award (June 2008)
Clive McCann, Emeritus Professor of Geophysics in the former Postgraduate Research Institute for Sedimentology at the University of Reading received the prestigious Conrad Schlumberger medal to mark his Outstanding Contribution to Geophysics at the annual meeting of the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers in Rome on Monday 9th June 2008.
BGA Review of Geophysics Education
The BGA's parent societies, the Royal Astronomical Society and the Geological Society, at the BGA's instigation, has conducted a Review of Geophysics Education at UK universities and schools. The review, which was completed in 2006, investigated the current state and recent history of geophysics as an undergraduate and taught-masters discipline, covering full-time, part-time and distance learning courses, and the provision of geophysics in secondary education. A report has been presented to the parent societies and to the Institute of Physics, from which it is hoped some action points will be taken forward. Details.
