The 2011 RAS National Astronomy Meeting (NAM 2011) will be held in Llandudno, North Wales, in the week before Easter, from Sunday 17 April (registration and evening reception) to Thursday 21 April.
The scientific programme will encompass the wide range of astronomy executed in the UK and consist of plenary lectures by invited guest speakers and parallel sessions on more specialist topics. NAM 2011 will incorporate the MIST and Solar Physics meetings as parallel sessions and a plenary RAS meeting at which RAS award winners for 2011 will be honoured and given their prizes.
The NAM 2011 Scientific Organising Committee, appointed by the RAS, is chaired by Prof M.G. Edmunds.
Venue Cymru and Llandudno
NAM2011 will be held in the Venue Cymru conference centre, http://conference.venuecymru.co.uk on the seafront in the town, no more than half a mile from the town centre.
There is a wide range of accommodation in the town and its surrounding area, a lot of it within walking distance of the venue, from reasonably priced B&B and self-catering accommodation to luxury hotels; the dates of the conference are the last days in the early part of 2011 of the low season for prices.
Llandudno is a seaside resort town, very close to Snowdonia National Park, and there is a wide range of attractions and activities in the area. See http://conference.venuecymru.co.uk/home.php?/Area_and_Travel_Information/Recreation.
It should be possible at reasonable price to add on a short break after or, especially inexpensively, before the NAM.
We are looking into the possibility to provide a crèche for conference attendees (let us know if you have any interest in this by emailing the Executive Secretary,

Travel to Llandudno is conveniently by rail to Llandudno station itself, or to Llandudno Junction (on the Crewe-Holyhead main line), located 4 km south of the town. Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are the nearest international airports.
