) of the RAS promotes the appreciation and understanding of astronomy and geophysics both in the classroom and by the general public.
It aims to reach out to untapped audiences and to promote life-long learning.
Its activities include advising on the astronomy and geophysics content of the National Curriculum, running national competitions for school children and for university students, and publishing information leaflets.
The RAS Education Committee works within the framework of the 'Washington Charter'.
