Interested in astronomy? Why not become a 'Friend of the RAS'?
The primary purpose of the RAS is to advance astronomy and geophysics by supporting its members (Fellows) many of whom are part of the professional community of researchers in universities, observatories and laboratories, not least by making the case for continued governmental support for their work. However Astronomy, including the study of the Earth and Solar System, more so than many other branches of science, appeals, and is accessible, to the general public.
If you have an interest in, though not necessarily much knowledge of, Astronomy and enjoy popular talks, visits and social events with similarly minded people, why not become a FRIEND of the RAS?
You will enjoy the following benefits.
- Free priority seat reservation at our popular lunch-time lectures
- Invitations to social events and meetings in Burlington House
- Use of the Society's historic library in Burlington House
- Escorted visits to observatories and other places of interest
- Discounted admission to places of interest
- Discounted subscription to ‘Astronomy & Geophysics’ magazine
In addition every Friend will receive the RAS Diary and a colour guide to Astronomy in the UK.
To become a Friend of the RAS, simply send your name, address, email address and telephone number with a cheque (made out to ‘The Royal Astronomical Society’) for £35.00 to the Membership Secretary, Royal Astronomical Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London W1J 0BQ For further information see http://friends.ras.org.uk/ |
