The RAS has appointed a commissioning editor for its new books series.
Primarily aimed at the academic market, but including history and popular titles for scientists and amateur astronomers, the books will exploit the Society’s assets – its members, its archives, its meetings – to advance astronomy and geophysics.
The editor of 'A&G', Dr Sue Bowler, has been appointed commissioning editor for the books which will be published by Springer.
The first two books are in preparation and will review research into white dwarf stars and the ‘many-body problem’ – how stars, planets and galaxies interact through gravitation.
The Series will contain a wide variety of books in areas of concern to the Society, including


 Books will be refereed and appear in the most appropriate Springer series. Prospective editors or authors, who need not be members of the Society to publish in the Series, should contact the Commissioning Editor with proposals for books under this new imprint:
