One former President of the RAS and 3 other astronomers appear in the Queen's Birthday Honours list while another former President is appointed to the Order of Merit. Congratulations to all 5!

Professor Jocelyn Bell Burnell has been made a DBE, honoured along with Dr Heather Couper (CBE), Professor Mark Bailey (MBE) and Professor Nigel Mason (OBE) in the honours list published on 16 June 2007.

Professor Bell Burnell was President of the RAS 2002-2004, the second woman to hold this position in its nearly 200-year history.

Dr Couper is a former President of the British Astronomical Association, Professor Bailey is currently a Vice-President of the RAS, and Professor Mason is the inaugural Director of the Milton Keynes Science Festival.

Professor Lord Rees, currently President of the Royal Society and Astronomer Royal, was President of the RAS 1992-1994
