The 2012 Transit of Venus will begin at 23:04 on 5 June, and conclude at 05:55 on 6 June (all times BST). The transit will be broadcast live by the GLORIA project, who have kindly made their stream available to the RAS.

There will be three live segments, each lasting around 70 minutes, with commentary in English and Spanish:

  • Venus enters the solar disk at 23:04 on 5 June, from Cairns, Australia
  • Mid-point of the transit around 02:30 on 6 June, from Sapporo, Japan
  • Venus exits the solar disk at 04:26 on 6 June, from Tromso, Norway
Between these periods the video will show images of the transit as it progresses.

For more information on this rare astronomical phenomenon, see our 2012 Transit of Venus page.

Please note that no video will appear until the broadcast begins at 23:00 BST on June 5.

You can watch the broadcast using the stream above, or by visiting Sky Live.
