The RAS holds regular monthly scientific meetings from October to May each year, usually on the second Friday of the month. Typically a pair of Specialist Discussion meetings for Fellows are followed by a more general Astronomy & Geophysics ('Ordinary') meeting, open to the public.

Interested Fellows should see the detailed guidance on how to propose a meeting, and send proposals for Astronomy SD meetings (including Exoplanets) to Mandy Bailey (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) and proposals for Geophysics SD meetings (including Planetary Science and Solar-Terrestrial Physics) to Lyndsay Fletcher (This email address is being protected from spambots. To help with assessment, proposals should include the following information:
- Title of meeting and organiser(s), at least one of whom should be an RAS Fellow
- The topics to be covered in the meeting
- Rationale for the meeting, including timeliness,
- Suggestions for invited speakers
- Preferred date for meeting, if any

Proposals should not exceed one A4 page in length.

Topics can cover any aspect of astronomy and solid-earth geophysics, planetary science and/or solar-terrestrial physics. Successful proposers will be expected to assist in the organisation of their meeting, mostly by recruiting speakers and chairing the meeting.

The deadline for the receipt of proposals is 1 March 2017.
