Congratulations Sir James Hough and Haley Gomez MBE!

The Royal Astronomical Society congratulates Professor (Sir) James Hough of the University of Glasgow, and Professor Haley Gomez (MBE) of the University of Cardiff, who are both recognised in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Prof. Hough is knighted for his leadership of the work to detect gravitational waves, and Prof. Gomez is made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to astronomy, astrophysics and outreach activities.

 

Prof. Mike Cruise, President of the Royal Astronomical Society, said: “The UK continues to produce astronomers of the highest calibre, and Jim and Haley are national leaders in their respective fields. We’re delighted that their contributions are now acknowledged by national honours.”
