BGA calls for better verification of greenhouse gas emissions

Following a recent meeting at the RAS, an international group of experts, including members of the British Geophysical Association (BGA), have written to Maire Geoghegan-Quinn, the EU Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science Policy, urging her to build European capacity for researchers to track changes in greenhouse gas emissions.

The letter stresses the urgent need to sustain and improve support for in situ measurement of greenhouse gases; ensure continuity of measurements, move the Integrated Carbon Observing System (ICOS) to full operation, prioritise satellite systems that observe carbon gases in space planning and support data integration with modelling studies.
