The RAS is currently inviting applications from suitably-qualified individuals for the position of Librarian and Archivist. The current Librarian, Peter Hingley, has announced his intention to retire during 2012, and the Society is seeking to make a new appointment by early summer.
The Librarian and Archivist will have responsibility for the Society's world-class library of books, manuscripts and periodicals relating to astronomy and geophysics. The library also contains internationally significant items including rare books, portraits and illustrations, and historic correspondence (including the Herschel Archive), holding over 5,000 items published before 1851.
Prospective applicants should consult the full job description. The deadline for receipt of applications is 30 March 2012, with interviews scheduled to be held on 19 April.
