Prof. Martin Hendry awarded an MBE

The RAS congratulates Professor Martin Hendry, who has been honoured in the UK 2015 New Year Honours list. National honours are issued twice a year on the advice of the British government, to recognise exceptional public service.

MBE medalThe medal awarded to recipients of the MBEProf. Hendry, Head of the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Glasgow, has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). Prof. Hendry, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society receives the MBE in recognition of his "services to public engagement in science".

The President of the RAS, Prof. Martin Barstow, commented: "Martin has spent many years combining a career as a top class research astronomer with dedicated public engagement work with people of all backgrounds, developing innovative techniques to allow everyone to enjoy and appreciate astronomy and space science. Congratulations on a well deserved award!"

In appropriate cases the RAS can nominate individuals for national honours.
