The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Open University (Milton Keynes) is the host for the 2004 National Astronomy Meeting (NAM), sponsored by the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) and the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC). The meeting is expected to attract over 300 professional astronomers.

Sessions will feature recent research on a wide range of astronomical topics. This year there is a strong focus on astrobiology and planetary exploration as well as cosmology and astrophysics. Topics under discussion will include the origin of life, the question of life on Mars, and the Cassini-Huygens mission to Saturn and Titan, due to arrive at its destination later this year.

Media representatives are cordially invited and press room facilities will be available from 9 a.m. on Tuesday 8th April through to 1.00 p.m. on Friday 11th April. Media registration is free.

A full schedule of the sessions and other information about the NAM can be found at

Media can pre-register on-line at this web site, or by contacting Jacqueline Mitton or Peter Bond (RAS Press Officers), but advance registration is not essential.

More information will be circulated in the two weeks before the meeting, including press notices on highlight presentations (subject to embargo).
