THE ROYAL ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY NATIONAL ASTRONOMY MEETING 2004 , AT THE OPEN UNIVERSITY, MILTON KEYNES

TUESDAY 30 MARCH TO FRIDAY 2 APRIL 2004,

The RAS National Astronomy Meeting (NAM) 2004 at the Open University begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday 30th March and runs through to 3.30 p.m. on Friday 2nd April. Around 400 astronomers will take part during the week. This year, astrobiology and planetary exploration feature strongly in the programme, alongside cosmology and astrophysics. Full details of the programme, and abstracts of the presentations and posters, are available on the meeting website at:


REGISTRATION Media representatives are invited to attend free of charge. Registration in advance by contacting Jacqueline Mitton, or during the meeting at the registration desk.

PRESS ROOM There will be a press room in the Systems Seminar Room. (see Campus Facilities page on the web site for the location), staffed by Jacqueline Mitton and Peter Bond. It will be open from 8.45 a.m. to 5.45 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday and 8.45 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. Friday.

PRESS NOTICES During the week before the meeting we expect to distribute by e-mail about 15 embargoed press notices on topical and newsworthy presentations. They will also be available on password-protected pages of the meeting web site accessible from:

THE CONTENT OF EACH PRESS NOTICES IS EMBARGOED UNTIL 00.01 A.M. ON THE DAY OF RELEASE. There will be releases on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

THE RAS NAM The RAS National Astronomy Meeting (normally held annually) is one of the most important regular gatherings of astronomers in the UK. It is sponsored by the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council (PPARC).
